Chippewa Hills Warriors School Spirit Challenge

The power of small town pride! The fans of the Chippewa Hills Warriors came out in support of their school during our School Spirit Challenge. Mo Simon, Joyce Kain, Karen McKenzie and even Fortune Freddy (along with a little help from the cheerleaders) presented Athletic Director Chi Etheridge with a check for $250 at the football game on Friday, October 6th. Congratulations Warriors – and thank you for participating in our School Spirit Challenge!

 

Homecoming Spirit in Cadillac

Hometown pride is alive and well in Cadillac!  October 5th was the date of Cadillac's Homecoming and at Firstbank we did our part to show our support!  During the Homecoming parade our staff passed out mini footballs, cider and donuts to fans and spectators.  To the delight of many of the kids who were there Fortune Freddy even made an appearance!!  Later that evening the Cadillac High School Vikings treated their fans to a 40-0 victory over Alpena.  Way to go team!!! 

Wolverines Take Top Honors in School Spirit Challenge

The kind of support and camaraderie that resonated from all the Vestaburg Wolverine fans and everyone in their community during our Facebook School Spirit Challenge was second to none!  The Wolverines took top honors and placed first in our two-week Facebook challenge.  Connie Hetherington, Dustin Welch and Sandy Ebright, Branch Manager of Firstbank-Vestaburg were honored to present a donation of $500 to the Vestaburg Sports Boosters during halftime at the homecoming game held on Oct 5th.  Congratulations Wolverines –  your school spirit shines throughout your entire community!   Thank you for participating in our School Spirit Challenge!

Fortune Freddy and the Merrill Homecoming Parade

On Friday, October 5th, the Merrill Vandals kicked off the evening with a Homecoming Parade.  Fortune Freddy and other Firstbank staff were excited to be involved in the pre-game festivities.  The fun-packed evening was enjoyed by all the Vandal fans and the varsity football team topped off the evening with a victory over the Breckenridge Huskies.

As part of last Friday’s Homecoming festivities,  Fortune Freddy rocked the crowd, while Joan Welke, Manager of Firstbank-Merrill was pleased to present the Merrill Sports Boosters with a $250 donation in recognition of the Vandals’ third place finish in our Facebook “School Spirit Challenge”.   The  Merrill Community and the Merrill  fans showed their love and support for the Vandals !!  Congratulations Merrill Vandals  and thank you to everyone that participated in our Facebook challenge! 

 

Howard City Relay for Life

The staff at our Howard City office participated in a mini Relay for Life event that was held at Tri County High School on September 28th.  After the varsity football game, the relay teams walked around the track for 5 hours to help bring awareness to cancer research.  The event raised over $26,000!  Great job team!!

Firstbank West Michigan School Supply Drive a Success!

Firstbank West Michigan and Ionia Public Schools’ Transportation Department had great fun with the “Pack the Bus” theme for Firstbank’s annual school supply drive.  The extraordinary collection of backpacks and other school essentials donated by Firstbank customers and staff as well as community members was presented to IPS principals for distribution to students and teachers.  Pictured are, from left, Rather Principal Darin Magley, Bus Driver Mary Ellen Groom, Jefferson Principal Matt Vogel, Twin Rivers Principal Dayna Ellis, Bus Driver Sharon Blanchard, Firstbank Southside Office Manager Sandy Brands, Firstbank Vice President/Main Office Manager Debrann Hausserman, and Boyce Principal Stacey Bovee.

Firstbank employees in Gratiot County have been raising money for Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society for over 14 years.  This year, their team the "Bookin' Bankers" have put together a cookbook with a collection of their favorite recipes!  Cookbooks are being sold for $10.00 and 100% of the proceeds are going to the Gratiot County Relay for Life.  Stop in at any Firstbank-Alma location to get your copy of "Cookin' for a Cause" today!!

Howard City Scarecrow Contest

The second week in September is Howard City's annual Scarecrow Contest.  All the area businesses are asked to create a display for the contest and this year we chose to use the theme "What we do in the community with the Harvest Festival"   Firstbank worked with that theme and created their display around it... "Harvesting what we plant in our community"  The displays are judged by the Harvest Festival Queens Court who present the top display with winning recognition.  So if you are driving through Howard City the second week in September be sure to look for the area scarecrow displays.   

Firstbank Supports the Gratiot County Fair for Youth

Firstbank proudly supports all of the youth involved in the Gratiot County Fair for Youth!  Each year during fair week, Firstbank makes a donation to the Gratiot County 4-H Leaders Council.  This enables the Leaders Council to fund grants to help many 4-H members attend camps and take special trips throughout the year.
